What is GIS?
The Wallace State Geospatial Technology programs prepare students for entry level positions within the in-demand field of Geographic Information Systems.  Individuals will create and update maps and charts for regional planning, education, emergency response, and other purposes using a variety of data.  Do you enjoy maps and geography?  Does being on the forefront of technology excite you? Do you have solid computer and communication skills?  Consider a career in GIS! 

What are the careers related to this program?  
After earning your associate degree in geospatial technology, you can work as a:
     Geographic information technician, analyst, and specialist
     Cartographer or photogrammetrist
     City and regional planning aide
     Business and industry logistics and/or precision technician
     Surveying technician
     Specialist in another position related to the acquisition, use and processing of geographic and time-based data

Tasks associated with work in the field:
Produce data layers, maps, tables, or reports, using spatial analysis procedures or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology, equipment, or systems.

Provide technical expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology to clients or users.

Perform computer programming, data analysis, or software development for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications, including the maintenance of existing systems or research and development for future enhancements.

Perform integrated or computerized Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analyses to address scientific problems.
